Why the jellyfish?
- Since ancient times, jellyfish have been valued (and consumed) in Asia for their medicinal properties in treating: hypertension, ulcers, digestive diseases, fatigue, weight loss, and skin conditions; jellyfish have beneficial properties similar to cartilage for strengthening bones and teeth, and are antithrombotic and antineoplastic.
- It is also used to improve memory, as well as to combat age-related language problems, etc.

- Jellyfish have the unique ability to retain water and control humidity levels.

Use in Cosmetics
Mucin (a highly glycosylated protein produced by the epithelial cells of metazoans) is a protein responsible for maintaining hydration levels and provides lubricating and anti-adhesive properties between cells. Numerous studies since 1900 have demonstrated its properties.
- Protection: Jellyfish mucin has been isolated and is highly similar to human mucin. It is one of the main contributors to the rheological properties (viscosity) of mucus, which plays a fundamental role in defense against pathogens and environmental stress.
- Hydrates: Jellyfish mucin has three times the hydrating and hygroscopic (moisture-attracting) activity of hyaluronic acid. Xanthium strumarium (Burdock)
It is a herbaceous plant species in the Asteraceae family, native to North America and now cultivated in Europe and Asia. Traditionally, the plant has been used to treat hives, eczema, and dermatitis due to its properties:
